About the Owners We are a small husband and wife business. Jessica and I (Jesse) moved to the small border (US/MX) town of Naco to serve at Naco Christian Church. I am the bi-vocational Pastor of NCC, a small bilingual church which meets on both sides of the border. In order to supplement our income and pursue a venture that we truly enjoy we have started this small coffee roasting company.
Why the name "Cafe Cultiva"? These are Spanish words for "coffee" and "cultivate". Genesis 2:15 speaks of God placing Adam in the Garden of Eden and assigning him the task of taking care of it. The Hebrew word "abad" found in Genesis 2:15 is sometimes translated "till" or "cultivate." There is a real sense in which Adam was to work the land, but throughout the Old Testament the word "abad" often means something like "serve" or "worship," and it is frequently used of the Israelite priests. Apparently one of the ways Adam was to serve and worship God was to get his hands dirty and take care of the land. We want everything that we do to be in service to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and we hope to worship him even as we work roasting and selling coffee. We try to honor our savior and creator, by producing top quality coffee, pursuing honest business practices, and being good stewards of creation. We also wanted "cultiva" to be in the name because one thing we love about coffee is that it creates an opportunity to cultivate relationships. Conversations seem to be more comfortable and fruitful when a cup of good coffee is shared. So coffee is one way for us to pursue the some of the same goals we have in vocational ministry, namely the worship of our Lord and the cultivation of relationships with those around us.
